So what’s this place all about, anyway?

I think that’s a fair question. What have you stumbled upon?

This is a blog dedicated to discussing educational technology in higher education, especially as it is used to facilitate online learning. I’ve published posts on my institutions’¬†organizational readiness to deliver effective e-learning, how online instructors can overcome the challenges that e-learning faces in terms of a deep-seated prejudice in favor of face-to-face instruction, and where the digital divide still exists in the United States and what we can do to bridge the gap. I am extremely interested in the teaching of¬†writing online and how it can be made more effective. What drives me is the concern that students cannot write well. If you cannot write well, you cannot think well. And if you cannot think well, then you cannot live well. My aim in writing this blog is to provide some measure of orientation to the researcher just stepping into these complex thickets of data in the hope that together we can move just a bit closer to an understanding of what works when it comes to online writing pedagogy.

I teach philosophy and humanities for two community colleges in Houston, Texas and I’m studying e-learning in preparation for my doctorate. I am interested in moving into a career in instructional design, working for a textbook company, perhaps.

Thanks for reading and I look forward to reading your comments!

  1. I look forward to reading your blog. I could not agree more that learners in today’s world spell atrociously.Their understanding or the lack thereof of proper English speaks volumes for our educational system. What are we leaving to future generations? I want to teach the rudiments of English and intellectual property online. Again, I am looking forward to your blog.

    1. I’m not sure I’ll be posting much content in the immediate future. NCU and my jobs keep me busy! But I hope to have something up in the next few weeks. Thanks for the encouragement!
